Fresh fragrances with citrus, aquatic and green notes. Clean, light scents that feel easy to wear every day, especially in warm weather.

  • 7 Best Spring Fragrances for Every Budget (2027)

The best spring fragrances sit somewhere between the cosy vanilla you wore all winter and the sharp citrus you’ll want in July. Think wet grass after a shower, tulips on your desk or a freshly sliced pear.

In this guide we picked seven of the best spring fragrances for women, men and everyone in between, with real euro prices from Dutch shops. Three of them cost under €50, and one of those is under €20. Planning ahead for July? See our summer guide.

What do the best spring fragrances have in common?

Dutch spring is mild and damp: cold mornings, warmer afternoons and regular rain. A heavy amber perfume feels like too much, while a pure summer citrus is gone before your second lecture.

That is why the best spring fragrances usually have:

    • Bright top notes such as lemon, bergamot, grapefruit or pear. These are what you smell in the first few minutes.
    • A soft floral or green heart, for example jasmine, lily of the valley, violet or iris.
    • A light base of musk, cedar or a little amber, so the scent stays on your skin into the afternoon.
    • A lighter concentration, often eau de toilette. Our guide to eau de parfum vs eau de toilette explains what that means for wear time.

The Wikipedia article on perfume explains how top, heart and base notes work, and the oil percentage of each concentration.

How we picked these spring scents

To find the best spring fragrances for students and young professionals, we used four criteria:

    • Spring profile: fresh, floral, green or lightly fruity. Nothing that smells like a Christmas candle.
    • Real price in euros: we checked prices at Dutch shops such as Etos, Kruidvat and Haarspullen in November 2026. Sales change prices a lot, so treat them as a guide.
    • Something for everyone: three women’s, two men’s and two unisex picks, spread over three price levels.
    • Easy to wear: every pick works for a lecture, an office day or a walk along the river.

The notes listed below come from the brand or retailer product pages. No brand paid to be in this guide.

Longevity is a rough guide based on concentration and notes; skin and weather change it.

Our 7 best spring fragrances, reviewed

    1. 4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser (unisex)

Notes: lemon, bergamot, orange, lavender, rosemary, orange blossom, petitgrain
Typical price: about €20 for 100 ml (€19.99 at Etos; also at Kruidvat)

4711 is one of the oldest eaux de Cologne still on sale, named after its original address in Cologne and made there since at least 1799. It smells clean and herbal, like lemon peel and rosemary on fresh sheets, and it’s hard to dislike. The catch is wear time. As a cologne it has a low concentration, so expect an hour or two. Keep it in your bag and splash some on after cycling to class.

    2. Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers (women)

Notes: lemon, bergamot, melon, peach, cyclamen, jasmine, rose, osmanthus, sandalwood, cedar, musk
Typical price: about €12–€36 for 100 ml (Etos, De Online Drogist)

Sunflowers came out in 1993 and, on offer, still costs less than lunch in town. It opens juicy with melon and peach, then settles into soft flowers and a warm, woody base. It feels sunny without being sugary. Some people find it a bit old-fashioned, and the melon is loud for the first ten minutes. For around €15, though, it’s an easy everyday spring perfume.

    3. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue (women)

Notes: Sicilian lemon, Granny Smith apple, cedar, jasmine, white rose, bamboo, amber, musk
Typical price: about €50–€93 for 50 ml (Etos, Haarspullen; often on sale)

Light Blue smells like a cold glass of lemon water with a slice of green apple. The jasmine and cedar stop it from smelling like washing-up liquid. It’s one of the best spring fragrances for the first warm Saturday in April, and it keeps working all summer. It has been around since 2001 and is everywhere, so you may meet someone wearing it. Wait for a sale: the list price is almost double the usual offer.

    4. Versace Pour Homme (men)

Notes: citrus, bergamot, orange blossom, petitgrain, hyacinth, sage, geranium, cedar, tonka bean, amber, musk
Typical price: about €50–€60 for 100 ml (around €56 at Kruidvat)

A fresh, slightly soapy citrus with a herbal middle, and one of the best spring fragrances for men on a budget. It’s polite enough for a seminar room and smart enough for a job interview. The hyacinth adds a hint of spring flowers that most men’s citrus scents leave out. It won’t fill a room, and after a few hours it sits close to the skin. For a 100 ml designer bottle under €60, it’s good value.

    5. Marc Jacobs Daisy (women)

Notes: strawberry, violet, grapefruit, gardenia, jasmine, musk
Typical price: about €65–€96 for 50 ml (around €65 on offer at Haarspullen)

Daisy is soft, fruity and a little powdery, like strawberries next to violets, in the bottle with white daisies on the cap. It’s a gentle scent for daytime and first dates. If you like strong perfumes, you may find it too quiet. Smaller sizes such as 20 ml and 30 ml are a cheaper way to try it.

    6. Prada L’Homme (men)

Notes: neroli, pepper, iris, violet, amber, cedarwood, patchouli
Typical price: about €70–€92 for 50 ml (around €70 on offer at Haarspullen)

Prada L’Homme smells like a freshly ironed white shirt. The iris gives it a clean, slightly powdery feel, and the amber adds warmth for chilly evenings. Pick it if you want one bottle for the office, dinner and autumn too. It costs more than the Versace, but the amber and patchouli base usually hangs on longer.

    7. Maison Margiela Replica Springtime in a Park (unisex)

Notes: pear, bergamot, blackcurrant, lily of the valley, jasmine, rose, musk, vanilla, Ambrox
Typical price: about €145–€155 for 100 ml (Sephora, department stores; 30 ml also available)

The treat bottle, and the priciest of our best spring fragrances. It smells of juicy pear and lily of the valley over a soft musky base, very close to its name, and it suits anyone. As an eau de toilette it fades faster than you’d hope for €150. Try a sample or the 30 ml size first, or put it on your birthday list.

    Tips for wearing spring perfume

Even the best spring fragrances fade faster than a winter scent. These habits help:

    • Test on skin, not paper. A scent changes over a few hours as the heart and base notes come through. Wear it for a day before you buy.
    • Don’t sniff ten bottles in a row. Your nose quickly stops noticing a smell, an effect called olfactory fatigue. Test two or three, then step outside.
    • Go lighter indoors. Two sprays is enough for a lecture hall or a shared office.
    • Carry a travel atomiser for a top-up after lunch. Our guide on how to make your perfume last longer has more ideas.
    • Keep bottles off the windowsill. Sunlight and heat break perfume down over time. A drawer or cupboard is better.

    Spring fragrance FAQ

Are the best spring fragrances different from summer fragrances?

They overlap, but spring scents usually have more flowers and a slightly warmer base, because the weather is cooler. Summer scents lean harder on citrus and aquatic notes. Light Blue works in both seasons. Sunflowers and Daisy feel most at home in spring.

Can men wear floral spring fragrances?

Yes. Both men’s picks among our best spring fragrances use flowers: Versace Pour Homme has hyacinth and geranium, and Prada L’Homme is built around iris. If you like how it smells on you, wear it.

Is an eau de toilette strong enough for spring?

Usually, yes. An eau de toilette has a lower concentration than an eau de parfum, so it feels lighter in mild weather. It also fades sooner, so plan a top-up if you’re out all day.

When should I switch from my winter perfume?

When your winter scent starts to feel heavy, often in March or April. If you love warm scents, our Best Winter Fragrances guide (button below) has picks you can keep for cool spring evenings.

    Our verdict

On a tight budget, start with 4711 for a quick fresh splash or Sunflowers for an everyday floral. For women who want a crowd-pleaser, Light Blue is hard to beat on sale, while Daisy is the softer, sweeter option. For men, Versace Pour Homme gives the most freshness per euro and Prada L’Homme is the more grown-up choice. If you want one special bottle, save up for Springtime in a Park.

Top 5 Fresh Summer Fragrances Under €50

Fresh summer fragrances are what you need when the temperature rises and the heavy vanilla and oud scents that feel cosy in winter suddenly become too much. Summer calls for fragrances that feel like a cold drink on a hot terrace: bright, clean and easy to wear. The good news is that some of the most loved fresh scents are also among the cheapest. You do not need to spend a fortune to smell great this season.

In this guide we share five fresh summer fragrances that usually cost less than €50, explain what they smell like and who they suit best, and give you a few tips to get the most out of a light summer scent.

    How we picked these fragrances

    • Fresh profile: citrus, green, aquatic or aromatic notes that stay pleasant in the heat.
    • Under €50: regularly available below fifty euros at Dutch drugstores and online shops.
    • Easy to wear: crowd-pleasers that work for school, work and weekends.
    • Proven classics: scents that have stayed popular for years, so they are easy to test in stores.
Fresh summer fragrances in the city: man walking down a sunny street, illustrating projection and sillage

Prices were checked in October 2026 at shops such as Etos and other European retailers. Perfume prices change often and discounts come and go, so always compare before you buy. New to fragrance strengths? This overview of perfume concentrations explains the difference.

Our top 5 fresh summer fragrances under €50

    1. Elizabeth Arden Green Tea

Notes: lemon, bergamot, green tea, jasmine and a soft musky base
Typical price: around €19–33 for 100 ml

A true budget hero. Green Tea smells like an iced tea with a slice of lemon: light, zesty and very relaxing. It is gentle enough to spray generously on a hot day and works for every gender. The trade-off is longevity, so expect to reapply after a few hours.

    2. Calvin Klein CK One

Notes: bergamot, pineapple, papaya and cardamom over jasmine, musk and amber
Typical price: around €30 for 100 ml

The original unisex fragrance from the nineties still feels modern. CK One is clean and slightly fruity, like fresh laundry drying in the sun. It is a safe blind buy and perfect for students who want one bottle for every occasion.

    3. Davidoff Cool Water

Notes: mint, coriander, lavender, amber and musk
Typical price: around €24–35 for 75 ml

The classic aquatic scent. Cool Water opens with a cool, minty splash and settles into a soft, slightly sweet base. It projects well and lasts longer than most fresh fragrances in this price range, which makes it great for long summer evenings.

    4. Nautica Voyage

Notes: marine notes, green apple, mint and petitgrain
Typical price: around €20–25 for 100 ml

Probably the best value on this list. Voyage smells green and airy, like a sea breeze with a crisp apple twist. It is subtle, so it is ideal for the office or for people who do not like strong perfumes.

    5. Lacoste L.12.12 Blanc

Notes: citrus, green notes and a subtle spicy touch
Typical price: around €45 for 50 ml

Inspired by the brand’s iconic white polo shirt, Blanc is crisp, clean and a little more polished than the others. If you want a fresh scent that still feels a bit grown-up for dinners or dates, this is the one to try.

Two small travel-size perfume atomizers with pink fragrance and their caps beside them

How to make fresh summer fragrances last longer

    • Apply right after a shower on slightly damp, moisturised skin.
    • Spray on pulse points like your neck and inner elbows instead of your wrists, which you wash often.
    • Keep a small travel atomizer in your bag for a quick top-up.
    • Store your bottle away from sunlight and heat, never on a hot windowsill or in the car.

    Our verdict

All five fresh summer fragrances on this list stay under €50. If you want the cheapest possible refresh, start with Nautica Voyage or Green Tea. For one bottle that works everywhere, CK One is hard to beat. Cool Water gives you the most power for your money, while Lacoste Blanc is the best pick if you want something a little more refined. Whatever you choose, test it on your own skin first, because a scent always changes once it meets your body chemistry.
