Best Perfumes for Men: 10 Picks for Every Budget

Searching for the best perfumes for men usually ends with a list of €300 niche bottles or a shop shelf of boxes that all promise to be “fresh” and “intense”. Neither helps much when you have a student budget and want to smell good at a lecture, on a first date or at your cousin’s wedding.

So we kept it practical. Below are ten of the best perfumes for men that are easy to find in Dutch shops, split by budget. Each pick gets a typical euro price, what it smells like, who it suits and one honest downside. Five cost less than €50. Our quick pick is Montblanc Legend for under €50, or Bleu de Chanel if you can spend around €100.

How we picked the best perfumes for men

    Our rules for this list:

    • Easy to buy in the Netherlands. Every bottle is sold by at least one big Dutch retailer.
    • A spread of styles. The picks cover all six VYTA scent families, from aquatic to dark and woody.
    • Wearable at 18 to 30. Nothing that needs a three-piece suit to make sense.
    • Honest trade-offs. If a scent fades fast or copies a famous bottle, we say so.

We checked notes on retailer pages and on Fragrantica, the largest community fragrance database. Longevity estimates combine retailer descriptions with wearer reports, so treat them as a guide rather than lab results. Prices were checked in November 2026 and may vary. New to fragrance? Best affordable perfumes for men (under €50)

You can smell great for the price of two pizzas. The best affordable perfumes for men below either have a long track record or borrow the style of a far pricier bottle. Looking for Nautica Voyage or Cool Water? Those are in our fresh summer fragrances under €50.

Affordable men's aftershave and cologne bottles on a bathroom shelf next to a shaving brush

    1. Antonio Banderas Blue Seduction (€18–28)

Notes: bergamot, melon, mint, blackcurrant, cardamom, aquatic notes, amber and woods.

Blue Seduction smells clean and slightly fruity, like a cold shower followed by a slice of melon. It is the cheapest bottle here and very hard to overdo. Keep it in your gym bag or wear it on a hot day on the bike.

Downside: it is light and fades within a few hours, so treat it as a top-up scent.

    2. Lattafa Asad (€24–37)

Notes: black pepper, pineapple, tobacco, coffee, iris, patchouli, vanilla, amber and dry woods.

Asad opens with a peppery kick and settles into warm vanilla and tobacco. Fans often compare it to Dior Sauvage Elixir, which costs several times as much. As an eau de parfum, two or three sprays last well into the evening.

Downside: it is loud and too heavy for a warm lecture hall.

    3. Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man (€30–45)

Notes: lemon, blackcurrant, apple, birch, rose, jasmine, musk, ambergris and patchouli.

This is the famous budget take on Creed Aventus, a bottle that costs well over €200. Club de Nuit Intense starts with sharp lemon and fruit, then turns smoky thanks to the birch, and it lasts for hours. If you like a scent people notice when you walk into a bar, try this one.

Downside: the first ten minutes are harsh and very smoky, so let it settle before you judge it.

    4. Afnan 9pm (€35–48)

Notes: a fresh, fruity opening, a sweet and spicy heart and a warm base of vanilla and woods.

As the name suggests, 9pm is built for the evening. It is sweet and a little spicy, in the style of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Ultra Male, which makes it a popular choice for dates and parties.

Downside: too sugary for the office or a summer afternoon.

    5. Montblanc Legend Eau de Toilette (from about €45)

Notes: lavender, bergamot, lemon verbena, pineapple, oakmoss, geranium, red apple, sandalwood and tonka bean.

Legend is a modern fougère, the classic barbershop mix of lavender and moss, made friendlier with apple and pineapple. It smells like a freshly ironed shirt. If you need one bottle for lectures, an internship or a job interview, this is a sensible buy. Expect to pay about €45–55 for 100 ml.

Downside: it is popular, so it will not make you stand out.

    Mid-range picks (€50 to €100)

Many of the best perfumes for men sit in this price band. These picks offer different balances of citrus, woods and sweetness. A higher price does not guarantee better blending or longer wear.

    6. Montblanc Explorer (€55–98)

Notes: bergamot, pink pepper, clary sage, vetiver, leather, patchouli and akigalawood.

Explorer is another Aventus-style scent, but cleaner and more polished than Club de Nuit Intense. Think fresh citrus over earthy vetiver and soft leather. It works at a desk, at dinner and at the weekend, so it is an easy “one bottle for everything” pick. The list price is €98, but it is often on offer for around €60.

Downside: after a few hours it fades to a quiet woody skin scent.

    7. Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male (€70–96)

Notes: lavender, mint, cardamom, bergamot, cinnamon, orange blossom, vanilla, tonka bean and sandalwood.

Le Male launched in 1995 and still turns up on almost every list of the best perfumes for men. Fresh lavender and mint sit on top of soft vanilla, a bit like clean laundry and warm skin at once. That mix makes it a strong date-night choice in cold weather. Expect around €80–90 for the 125 ml bottle.

Downside: it was huge in the 2000s, so some people will link it to their dad.

    8. Terre d’Hermès Eau de Toilette (€75–93 for 50 ml)

Notes: orange, grapefruit, pepper, pelargonium, vetiver, cedar, patchouli and benzoin.

Created by Jean-Claude Ellena in 2006, Terre smells like bitter orange peel on dry earth and warm stone. It is quiet and grown-up, noticed only by people standing close. Wear it to the office, a presentation or a smart dinner. Prices for the 100 ml bottle vary a lot, so compare before you buy.

Downside: it can feel too grown-up if you mostly like sweet scents.

    Worth saving for (around €100)

Two of the most recognisable designer scents for men. Both are well made and work almost anywhere.

    9. Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette (€90–100 for 60 ml)

Notes: Calabrian bergamot, pepper and ambroxan.

Ask around for the best perfumes for men and Sauvage is usually the first name you hear. Juicy bergamot and a peppery, mineral base give it a fresh yet strong feel that suits almost any age and occasion, which also makes it a safe gift. Expect around €95–105 for 60 ml.

Downside: it is everywhere. If you want something nobody else in the room is wearing, look elsewhere.

    10. Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum (€78–104 for 50 ml)

Notes: grapefruit and lemon on top, then ginger and pink pepper, settling into incense, cedar and sandalwood.

Bleu de Chanel pairs fresh citrus with a smooth, smoky wood base. Think of it as the quieter cousin of Sauvage. It is hard to dislike, so many men wear it as their signature scent, and it fits a wedding as well as a Tuesday at the office. It is often discounted, so watch for offers.

Downside: the price. Montblanc Explorer covers similar ground for less.

    Which one suits you?

Still stuck between a few of the best perfumes for men? Match the scent to where you will wear it most:

    • University or office: Montblanc Legend or Terre d’Hermès, which stay close to the skin in a full room.
    • Date night: Afnan 9pm on a budget, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male if you can spend more.
    • Going out: Club de Nuit Intense or Lattafa Asad. Both last through a long night.
    • Everyday signature: Montblanc Explorer or Bleu de Chanel.
    • Gift you can’t get wrong: Dior Sauvage or Bleu de Chanel.

How to buy smart and make it last

Applying cologne to the wrist with a glass dropper to compare the best perfumes for men

Even the best perfumes for men disappoint if you buy blind or apply them badly. A few habits help:

    • Test on skin, then wait. Spray a tester on your wrist, walk around and smell it again after an hour, once the top notes have faded.
    • Check the concentration. An eau de parfum usually lasts longer than an eau de toilette with the same name. Our guide on eau de parfum vs eau de toilette explains the difference.
    • Compare prices. The same bottle can differ by €40 or more between a perfumery and an online discounter, as Terre d’Hermès shows above. Prices often drop around Black Friday.
    • Be careful on marketplaces. Fakes tend to turn up in very cheap listings from unknown third-party sellers, so read the seller reviews first.
    • Apply after a shower. Spray onto moisturised skin on your neck and chest, and don’t rub your wrists together. More tips in our guide to making perfume last longer.

    Frequently asked questions

Dior Sauvage and Bleu de Chanel are widely stocked examples. We have not established a current worldwide sales ranking for this guide. Test it on your own skin before you buy, because a bestseller can still smell wrong on you.

Should I buy eau de toilette or eau de parfum?

An eau de parfum contains more fragrance oil, roughly 15 to 20% compared with 5 to 15% for an eau de toilette, according to Wikipedia’s overview of perfume concentrations. An EDP may last longer, but concentration alone cannot predict performance. EDT and EDP versions can have different compositions; test the exact version you intend to buy.

How much should I spend on a men’s perfume?

For a first bottle, €25 to €60 is plenty: five of the best perfumes for men in this list can be found for under €50. Spend more once you know which scent family you enjoy.

Can men wear unisex or women’s perfumes?

Yes. The gender on the box is a marketing choice, and plenty of men wear vanilla, rose or fruity scents sold as unisex or women’s fragrances. If it smells good on your skin, wear it.

    Our verdict

Which of the best perfumes for men should you buy first? It depends on your budget. On a tight one, Montblanc Legend is the safest everyday bottle and Club de Nuit Intense gives the most performance per euro. With €60 to spend, Montblanc Explorer is the all-rounder. If you want the classic designer experience, Bleu de Chanel is the one we would save for.

  • Best Fragrances Under 100: 9 Bottles Worth the Upgrade

Best Fragrances Under 100: 9 Bottles Worth the Upgrade

Spending €50 to €100 on one bottle feels like a big step when the drugstore sells 100 ml for €25. This guide to the best fragrances under 100 euros is about that step: what the extra money buys, when it buys nothing, and nine bottles that earn their price.

We sorted the picks by occasion instead of gender. For gender-specific lists, see our best perfumes for men and best perfumes for women. Not sure what you like yet? Take the VYTA fragrance quiz first.

Is a €50–100 fragrance worth it?

The best fragrances under 100 euros are worth it if you’ll wear them often. You usually get more perfume oil per spray, a base that stays on skin for longer and a scent that changes over the day. Part of the price also pays for the brand and the bottle, which do nothing for the smell.

    • Higher concentration. Eau de parfum typically holds 15–20% aromatic compounds and eau de toilette around 10%, according to Wikipedia’s overview of perfume. The ranges overlap between brands, so the label is only a rough guide (our eau de parfum vs eau de toilette guide explains more).
    • A longer dry-down. Heavier ingredients act as fixatives that slow down the lighter ones, as Encyclopaedia Britannica explains. That base you can still smell at 5pm is where a €80 bottle most often beats a €25 one.
    • More layers. Fine perfumes can contain over 100 ingredients, so the scent moves from fresh to warm over the day.
    • Refills. YSL Libre and Prada Luna Rossa Carbon both come in refillable versions.

    How we picked

To make our list of the best fragrances under 100 euros, every bottle had to pass four checks:

    • A real Dutch price: €50–100 for at least one sensible size.
    • One clear job: each pick is the right bottle for a specific occasion.
    • A deliberate mix: four are marketed to men, four to women and one is unisex. Anyone can wear any of them.
    • New to VYTA: nothing from our other guides.

As a student myself, I wanted this list to answer one question honestly: when is spending €50 to €100 on a bottle actually worth it, and when does a cheaper one do the same job?

Prices checked November 2026 at Dutch shops, may vary.

    Everyday signature scents

A signature scent has to suit most weather and most rooms. These two are the best fragrances under 100 euros for wearing every day. Our guide on how to find your signature scent shows how to test them.

    1. Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt

Notes: ambrette seed, sea salt, sage, grapefruit
Typical price: €67–76 for 30 ml cologne

This smells like a windy afternoon at Scheveningen: salty air, dry grass and driftwood. It reads as neither masculine nor feminine, so it’s easy to share with a partner.

Good to know: as a cologne it lasts three to four hours. You’re paying for the brand more than for wear time.

    2. Narciso Rodriguez For Him Bleu Noir (eau de parfum)

Notes: bergamot, pepper, musk, cedarwood, ebony wood, amber
Typical price: €50–79 for 50 ml

Bleu Noir is a clean, dark musk over smooth woods. It sits closer to the skin than the loud “blue” fragrances, and two sprays in the morning are usually still there at dinner.

Good to know: some people struggle to smell musk on themselves. Ask a friend before you decide it’s weak.

    For lectures and the office

In a lecture hall or open-plan office, the best fragrances under 100 euros are the ones that stay within arm’s length.

    3. Chanel Chance Eau Tendre (eau de toilette)

Notes: grapefruit, jasmine, musk, iris, amber
Typical price: €58 for 35 ml or €80 for 50 ml (on offer)

Eau Tendre is juicy grapefruit and soft jasmine on a powdery musk, like a clean cotton shirt with a slice of fruit. It feels polished without shouting.

Good to know: the 50 ml costs €1.61 per ml and the 35 ml €1.65, so start with the small one.

    4. Prada Luna Rossa Carbon (eau de toilette)

Notes: bergamot, pepper, lavender, metallic notes, ambroxan, patchouli
Typical price: €70–85 for 100 ml (list price €116–129)

Carbon is crisp lavender and citrus over a smooth, slightly mineral base. Fans often compare it to Dior Sauvage from our men’s list, but it’s softer and easier to wear in a meeting room.

Good to know: at about €0.80 per ml it’s one of the best-value bottles here.

    Date night

After dark, the best fragrances under 100 euros can be sweeter and heavier. People stand closer, and lingering is the point.

    5. YSL Black Opium (eau de parfum)

Notes: pear, pink pepper, orange blossom, coffee, jasmine, vanilla, patchouli, cedar
Typical price: €65 for 30 ml; about €86 for 50 ml

Black Opium opens with sweet pear, then turns into iced coffee and vanilla. The coffee keeps it from smelling like dessert.

Good to know: it’s too much for a warm office. Plenty of men wear it too.

    6. Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb (eau de toilette)

Notes: bergamot, grapefruit, pink pepper, saffron, cinnamon, vetiver, tobacco, leather
Typical price: €61 for 90 ml (list price €130)

Spicebomb smells like cinnamon and pepper warming up next to a leather jacket. It’s cosy, confident and the cheapest bottle here per ml.

Good to know: skip it in a heatwave. Spice and tobacco feel heavy above 25°C.

    Weddings, graduations and special events

For a long day in nice clothes, these are the best fragrances under 100 euros to last from the ceremony to the last dance.

    7. YSL Libre (eau de parfum)

Notes: lavender, mandarin, blackcurrant, orange blossom, jasmine, vanilla, cedar, musk
Typical price: €60–62 for 30 ml; about €86 for 50 ml

Libre pairs lavender, a note you usually find in men’s scents, with orange blossom and creamy vanilla. It sits at the soft, floral end of our Oriental & smoky family, without the smoke.

Good to know: A refillable version exists, so you can keep the bottle.

    8. Valentino Born in Roma Uomo (eau de toilette)

Notes: violet leaf, salt, sage, ginger, vetiver, woods
Typical price: €70–75 for 50 ml (list price €100)

Born in Roma Uomo is salty, green and woody, a bit like a smart linen suit. It isn’t sweet, so it works for a daytime ceremony and the party afterwards.

Good to know: it’s a popular release, so you might not be the only one wearing it.

    The gift bottle

When one of the best fragrances under 100 euros is a present, pick a style that’s hard to dislike.

    9. Kayali Vanilla 28 (eau de parfum)

Notes: vanilla orchid, jasmine, tonka bean, brown sugar, amber woods, musk, patchouli
Typical price: €98 for 50 ml or €32 for 10 ml

Vanilla 28 is warm brown sugar and vanilla with a soft woody edge. It’s sold as a women’s fragrance, but anyone who loves vanilla can wear it.

Good to know: the 50 ml costs €1.96 per ml and the 10 ml €3.20. The small one still makes the safer gift.

When a cheaper bottle is just as good

You don’t need one of the best fragrances under 100 euros for every job. A €25 bottle is the smarter buy for:

    • Summer and the gym: light citrus and aquatic scents fade fast at any price, so you’ll reapply anyway.
    • Festivals: bags get lost and bottles get knocked over.
    • A new scent family: test the style cheaply before you commit €80.

Our guide to the best affordable perfumes covers bottles under €40.

How to never pay full price

Even the best fragrances under 100 euros rarely need to cost the list price.

    1. Compare price per ml. Divide the price by the millilitres. Spicebomb’s 90 ml (€0.68 per ml) costs about a third of Black Opium’s 30 ml (€2.18 per ml).
    2. Check the “van” price. In the Netherlands, a crossed-out price must be the lowest price the shop charged in the previous 30 days. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) found misleading discounts at 18 of 24 large retailers it checked in 2025.
    3. Look at gift sets. A Luna Rossa Carbon set with 100 ml plus a 10 ml travel spray was listed at about €70, less than the bottle alone elsewhere.
    4. Start small. A 10 ml, a decant (a sample poured from a full bottle) or a tester in plain packaging lets you try a scent for less. Buy from sellers with solid reviews.
    5. Compare three shops. During our check, the same bottle differed by up to €30 between shops.

    Fragrances under €100: FAQ

Which of the best fragrances under 100 lasts the longest?

Black Opium, Libre and Vanilla 28 usually last seven hours or more. Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt is the shortest at three to four hours. Dry skin and hot weather shorten wear time for any scent.

Is eau de parfum always stronger than eau de toilette?

Usually, but concentrations overlap between brands. Even among the best fragrances under 100 euros, a dense eau de toilette like Spicebomb can outlast a light eau de parfum.

Is a 30 ml bottle enough?

For most people, yes. One spray is roughly 0.1 ml, so 30 ml gives about 300 sprays, or three months at three sprays a day.

    Our verdict

Each of our nine best fragrances under 100 euros has a job. Bleu Noir is the daily signature. Luna Rossa Carbon and Chance Eau Tendre handle lectures and the office. Spicebomb and Black Opium cover date night, and Libre or Born in Roma Uomo will get you through a wedding.

For summer, the gym or a festival, a cheaper bottle does the job. Whatever you choose, test it on your own skin and check the price per ml before you pay.

Best Perfumes for Women: 9 Picks for Every Budget (2026)

Looking for the best perfumes for women without scrolling past 25 bottles you can’t even buy in the Netherlands? We narrowed it down to nine you can find in Dutch shops, from a €20 vanilla crowd-pleaser to one bottle that’s worth saving up for.

Each pick comes with its main notes, a typical price at a stated bottle size and the moment it suits best: a 9am lecture, a shift at your part-time job, a night out or a wedding. Not sure which scent family is yours? Take our fragrance quiz first, then come back with your result.

    How we picked these perfumes

A list of the best perfumes for women is only useful if you can buy, afford and wear what’s on it. Every pick had to pass five checks:

    • Easy to buy here: stocked by at least one big Dutch drugstore, perfumery or webshop.
    • A price at a real size: we list the bottle size next to the price, because a “cheap” 30 ml can cost more per spray than a 100 ml.
    • Different from each other: sweet, fresh, musky, floral and warm. If two smelled alike, the better-value one stayed.
    • Easy to wear: nothing so niche or polarising that it only works for collectors.
    • New to VYTA: we skipped bottles from our seasonal guides, so you get nine fresh suggestions.

Prices checked in November 2026 at Dutch and EU webshops. They change often, so treat them as a guide. Most picks are eau de parfum, which holds roughly 15 to 20% fragrance oils according to Wikipedia’s overview of perfume concentrations. Our guide to eau de parfum vs eau de toilette explains what that means for wear time.

The best perfumes for women under €50

Four bottles for less than a festival ticket, and two of them cost about €20 for a full 100 ml. If you’re new to perfume, this is the place to start.

    1. Lattafa Yara

Notes: tangerine, heliotrope, orchid, tropical fruit, vanilla, sandalwood, musk
Typical price: €20–25 for 100 ml eau de parfum
Best for: everyday wear if you love sweet scents

Yara smells soft, pink and creamy, a bit like a strawberry milkshake with warm vanilla underneath. For about twenty euros you get a full 100 ml bottle that easily lasts a working day. If you liked the sound of Lattafa Khamrah in our winter fragrance guide but want something lighter, this is the gentler sister.

Good to know: it is very sweet. Two sprays are plenty in a warm lecture hall.

    2. Britney Spears Fantasy

Notes: red lychee, golden quince, kiwi, cupcake accord, white chocolate, jasmine, musk, orris root, woods
Typical price: €20–30 for 100 ml eau de parfum
Best for: nights out, parties and festival season

Fantasy launched in 2005 and you’ll still find it at most Dutch drugstores. It opens with juicy lychee and kiwi, then turns into cupcake frosting and white chocolate. It’s playful, a little over the top and easy to like. The glittery pink bottle also makes it a fun, low-risk gift.

Good to know: it fades to a soft musk after about four hours, so pack a small atomiser for a long night.

    3. Calvin Klein Euphoria

Notes: pomegranate, persimmon, lotus, orchid, violet, amber, musk, mahogany
Typical price: €35–45 for 100 ml eau de parfum
Best for: date night when your budget is tight

Euphoria smells darker and richer than its price suggests. Juicy pomegranate comes first, then creamy orchid and a warm amber base that sits close to the skin for hours. It’s the cheapest way on this list to smell grown-up and a little mysterious.

Good to know: it’s heavy for a hot day. Save it for autumn, winter and evenings.

    4. DKNY Be Delicious

Notes: cucumber, grapefruit, magnolia, green apple, lily of the valley, tuberose, violet, sandalwood, amber
Typical price: about €25 for 30 ml or €50 for 100 ml
Best for: lectures, study days and spring

Think of biting into a cold green apple with a slice of cucumber on the side. Be Delicious is crisp, clean and cheerful, but use a light application in shared spaces. The apple-shaped bottle is easy to spot on the shelf, too.

Good to know: it stays close to the skin. Reapply after lunch if you want people to notice it.

    Mid-range picks: €50 to €100

These picks offer citrus, musk, white flowers and sweeter evening styles between €50 and €100. Price alone does not predict wear time. If you want one of the best perfumes for women to wear for the next few years, look here.

    5. Clinique Happy

Notes: ruby red grapefruit and other citrus, bush flower, Hawaiian wedding flower, soft musk
Typical price: €50–60 for 50 ml eau de parfum
Best for: the office, your part-time job, presentations

Happy smells like freshly squeezed orange juice on a sunny morning. It’s bright and friendly without being sweet. That makes it a safe choice for shared spaces like an open-plan office, a shop floor or a group project room.

Good to know: it’s simple and fades after four to five hours. A 10 ml travel spray solves that.

    6. Narciso Rodriguez For Her (eau de parfum)

Notes: peach, rose, musk, amber, patchouli, sandalwood
Typical price: about €95 for 100 ml
Best for: a signature scent you can wear anywhere

Musk is the star here. It smells like clean skin and warm cotton, with a powdery rose and soft peach on top. The For Her line was created by perfumers Christine Nagel and Francis Kurkdjian and won a FiFi Award in 2005, according to Wikipedia. The pink eau de parfum is the version most people mean when they talk about it.

Good to know: some people barely smell certain musks on themselves, even when others can. Test it on your skin and ask a friend before you buy.

    7. Gucci Bloom

Notes: jasmine, tuberose, Rangoon creeper, a soft powdery finish
Typical price: €70–80 for 50 ml eau de parfum (list price €116)
Best for: weddings, graduations and other special events

Spraying Bloom is like walking into a florist’s shop on a warm day. The white flowers are creamy, slightly green and very feminine, and the scent fills a room without shouting. It’s our pick when the dress code says “smart” and you want to smell like you made an effort.

Good to know: it’s floral from start to finish. If tuberose gives you a headache, skip it.

    8. Carolina Herrera Good Girl

Notes: almond, tuberose, Sambac jasmine, tonka bean, cacao
Typical price: €63 for 30 ml or €92 for 50 ml (on offer)
Best for: date night and parties

Good Girl comes in a stiletto-shaped bottle and smells as confident as it looks. Sweet almond and cocoa wrap around white flowers, so it’s warmer and more grown-up than Fantasy or Yara. It lasts well into the evening and people do notice it.

Good to know: it’s loud. Keep it for evenings and leave it at home on office days.

The treat bottle: worth saving for

Every list of the best perfumes for women needs one splurge. This is ours, and it’s the bottle to ask for on your birthday.

    9. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle

Notes: orange, jasmine, rose, patchouli, vetiver
Typical price: about €65 for 35 ml, €94 for 50 ml or €129 for 100 ml (often discounted)
Best for: internship interviews, special dinners, a long-term signature

Chanel launched Coco Mademoiselle in 2001, and it combines fresh citrus with flowers and patchouli. Fresh orange opens it, rose and jasmine follow, and a clean patchouli base keeps it polished for hours. It smells expensive in the best way, and it works from a job interview to a birthday dinner.

Good to know: lots of people wear it, so it won’t feel unique. Start with the 35 ml bottle and see if you reach for it every day.

How to choose the right perfume for you

How to choose a perfume: woman holding a paper tester strip to compare fragrances

Even the best perfumes for women won’t suit everyone. These four steps help you find the one that suits you:

    1. Start with what you already like. Love vanilla candles? Look at Yara or Good Girl. Prefer clean laundry and fresh sheets? Try Narciso Rodriguez or DKNY.
    2. Test on skin, then wait. A paper strip shows the opening. The scent you live with appears after one or two hours.
    3. Buy small first. Good Girl costs about €2.12 per ml in the 30 ml bottle and €1.84 in the 50 ml. The bigger bottle is better value, but only if you’re sure.
    4. Apply it right. Spray after a shower on your wrists and neck, and don’t rub. Our guide to making perfume last longer has more tips.

Perfumers sort scents into families on a fragrance wheel, such as floral, fresh, amber and woody. Once you know which family you like, shopping gets a lot easier. Our step-by-step guide on how to choose a perfume goes deeper.

    Women’s perfume FAQ

What are the best perfumes for women on a budget?

Lattafa Yara and Britney Spears Fantasy both cost around €20 to €30 for a full 100 ml bottle. For evenings, Calvin Klein Euphoria is the best value at about €39 for 100 ml.

Which women’s perfume lasts the longest?

Of the best perfumes for women on this list, Carolina Herrera Good Girl and Chanel Coco Mademoiselle last longest, often seven hours or more. Lattafa Yara does surprisingly well for its price. Dry skin and hot weather shorten wear time for any perfume.

What is a safe perfume to give as a gift?

Clinique Happy and Narciso Rodriguez For Her are two of the safest choices because they’re fresh and clean rather than sweet. If you don’t know her taste, buy a small bottle or a gift set and keep the receipt.

Can women wear men’s or unisex perfume?

Yes. “For her” and “for him” are marketing labels, and plenty of women wear fresh or woody scents sold to men. Browse our best perfumes for men and test whatever catches your eye.

    Our verdict

The best perfumes for women are the ones that fit your day and your budget. On a student budget, Lattafa Yara gives you the most perfume for your money. For lectures and the office, DKNY Be Delicious and Clinique Happy are easy wins. If you want one bottle that works everywhere, Narciso Rodriguez For Her is hard to beat, and Good Girl takes care of date night. Coco Mademoiselle is the one to save for.

Whatever you pick, test it on your own skin first. Perfume changes with body chemistry, and the bottle your housemate loves might smell different on you.

Best Winter Fragrances 2026: 7 Warm Picks for Every Budget

The best winter fragrances do something a light summer spray can’t: they stay with you under a thick coat, on a cold bike ride to class and in a café when the windows fog up. Think vanilla, spice, tobacco, smoke and sweet woods. Below are seven winter perfumes, from a €25 classic to a few mid-range favourites, with what each one smells like, what it costs in the Netherlands and who it suits.

Looking for something lighter? Our fresh summer fragrances under €50 are the opposite of this list. Every one of the best winter fragrances below is easy to find at Dutch shops and online.

What makes a scent a winter fragrance?

Cold air slows down evaporation. A citrus scent that fills a room in July can almost vanish on a frosty morning, because its light top notes disappear fast and there’s little underneath. The best winter fragrances are built the other way round. They lean on heavier base notes, the slow-evaporating layer of a perfume that can stay on skin for many hours (Wikipedia has a clear explainer on how top, heart and base notes work).

    Typical winter notes:

    • Vanilla, tonka bean and praline
    • Cinnamon, clove, cardamom and pink pepper
    • Tobacco, leather and smoky woods
    • Amber, benzoin and resins

In VYTA terms, most of the best winter fragrances sit in four of our six scent families: Warm & spicy, Gourmand, Oriental & smoky and Dark & woody. Not sure which one is yours? Take the VYTA fragrance quiz to find out.

Warm winter perfume notes: vanilla pods, cinnamon sticks and cloves on a light background

    How we picked these fragrances

To choose the best winter fragrances for this list, we looked at five things:

    • Warm profile: spicy, sweet, smoky or woody notes that hold up in the cold.
    • Real prices: checked at Dutch shops in November 2026.
    • Two budgets: four picks around or under €50, three mid-range picks between roughly €50 and €95.
    • Easy to test: all are sold widely, so you can try them on skin before you buy.
    • For everyone: men’s, women’s and unisex scents.

Prices checked November 2026. Perfume prices change often, so treat them as a guide.

The 7 best winter fragrances of 2026

The first four of these best winter fragrances cost around €50 or less. The last three are mid-range bottles that are worth saving up for.

    1. Lattafa Khamrah (unisex)

Notes: cinnamon, nutmeg, bergamot, dates, praline, tuberose, vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin, myrrh
Typical price: €30–35 (100 ml, eau de parfum)
Best for: evenings out, people who love sweet and spicy

Khamrah smells like a warm date cake dusted with cinnamon. It’s sweet and slightly boozy, and on most skin it lasts for hours. For about €0.30 per ml, it smells much pricier than it is. Two sprays are plenty, though, and it’s too rich for a packed lecture hall. Fragrantica lists it for women and men, and it wears that way.

    2. Joop! Homme (men)

Notes: orange blossom, bergamot, cinnamon, heliotrope, jasmine, sandalwood, tonka bean, patchouli, vanilla
Typical price: €25–30 (125 ml, eau de toilette)
Best for: the tightest budget, cold nights

Joop! Homme has been around since 1989 and is still one of the cheapest ways to smell warm. It’s sweet, powdery and spicy, with a big cinnamon-and-vanilla trail. It’s also loud, so one spray on the chest under your jumper is enough. At around €25 for 125 ml, you pay about €0.20 per ml.

    3. Burberry London for Men

Notes: cinnamon, lavender, bergamot, leather, mimosa, tobacco, oakmoss
Typical price: €38–45 (100 ml, eau de toilette)
Best for: office, Christmas dinners, gift ideas

Reviewers often call this one “Christmas in a bottle”. Burberry London mixes cinnamon and tobacco with a soft leather note, and it feels cosy and grown-up, like a wool coat. It’s quieter than Joop! and easier to wear to work. Longevity is moderate, so expect to top up in the afternoon.

    4. Ariana Grande Cloud (women)

Notes: lavender, pear, bergamot, praline, coconut cream, vanilla, whipped cream, musk, woods
Typical price: €48–67 (100 ml, eau de parfum), often on offer below €50
Best for: everyday wear, vanilla lovers

Cloud is soft, creamy and sweet, a bit like a vanilla latte with whipped cream. The lavender at the start keeps it from turning sugary. If you like gourmand scents, it’s a fairly safe blind buy, and it works for class, work and weekends. Fragrance nerds may find it a bit simple.

    5. Armani Stronger With You (men)

Notes: cardamom, pink pepper, mint, violet leaves, sage, chestnut, vanilla, amberwood, cedar
Typical price: €52–60 (30–50 ml, eau de toilette)
    Best for: date night, compliments

Stronger With You opens fresh and spicy, then dries down to roasted chestnut and vanilla. It’s sweet but not heavy, which makes it one of the easiest winter perfumes for men to wear, and plenty of women like it too. Start with the 30 ml. It keeps the price close to €50, and you’ll finish it before you get bored.

    6. Lancôme La Vie est Belle (women)

Notes: blackcurrant, pear, iris, jasmine, orange blossom, praline, vanilla, patchouli
Typical price: €65–95 (50 ml, eau de parfum)
Best for: special events, a long-lasting signature scent

La Vie est Belle opens with blackcurrant and pear, then settles into iris, praline and patchouli. It’s sweet and polished, lasts a long time and still projects in cold air. Compare prices before you buy: in November 2026 we saw the same 50 ml bottle listed from about €65 to €95.

    7. Maison Margiela Replica By the Fireplace (unisex)

Notes: pink pepper, orange blossom, clove, chestnut, guaiac wood, juniper, vanilla, Peru balsam, cashmeran
Typical price: €60–70 (30 ml, eau de toilette)
Best for: cosy weekends, something different

By the Fireplace smells like its name: burning wood, roasted chestnuts and a little vanilla. It’s the most unusual pick on this list and works for any gender. It’s also the priciest per ml (about €2), so the 30 ml is the sensible size. Wear it on grey Sunday walks, or when you want people to ask what you’re wearing.

    Best winter fragrances compared

Here are all seven picks side by side. Longevity is a rough guide, because skin type and the number of sprays change everything.

How to wear perfume in winter

Even the best winter fragrances behave differently on cold skin. These habits help:

    • Spray skin under clothing. Your chest and the back of your neck stay warm under a coat, which helps the scent develop.
    • A light mist on a scarf lasts for ages. Test an unseen spot first, because some perfume oils can stain.
    • Moisturise first. Dry winter skin holds fragrance poorly. An unscented body lotion helps.
    • Go easy indoors. Heated rooms make sweet scents louder. Two or three sprays are enough.
    • Don’t keep adding sprays. After a while you stop noticing your own perfume. That’s called olfactory fatigue, and the people around you can still smell it.

    Winter fragrance FAQ

What are the best winter fragrances for beginners?

Start with something soft and easy to like. Ariana Grande Cloud, Burberry London for Men and Armani Stronger With You are all sweet or spicy without being overpowering. Spray a tester on your wrist in store, walk around for an hour and see if you still like it.

Can I wear winter perfume in spring?

On cooler spring evenings, yes. Once it warms up, even the best winter fragrances can feel heavy, especially rich vanilla and spice scents. Our guide to the best spring fragrances covers lighter options.

Are cheap winter fragrances worth it?

Often, yes. Joop! Homme and Lattafa Khamrah cost around €25–35 and last longer than many pricier designer scents. Heavy base notes like vanilla, amber and tonka stay on skin for hours, so some of the best winter fragrances are also some of the cheapest.

Should I choose eau de parfum or eau de toilette for winter?

An eau de parfum usually lasts longer, but an EDT can still work if its base notes are heavy, like Burberry London. Read our comparison of eau de parfum vs eau de toilette.

    Our verdict

Our pick of the best winter fragrances comes down to budget and mood. For the lowest price, Joop! Homme is hard to beat. For a unisex scent that smells expensive, choose Lattafa Khamrah. Burberry London is the safest gift, Cloud is the easiest everyday vanilla and Stronger With You is our date-night pick. If you want to treat yourself, La Vie est Belle and By the Fireplace are the best winter fragrances on this list for a special bottle. Whatever you choose, test it on your own skin first, because a scent changes once it meets your body chemistry.
